at the end of spider-man #8 we got a bonus,  a story featuring spider-man facing off against the human torch.  but Hero vs. hero is always a dangerous line, and one that can be tough to do right,  more so when its the main plot of a whole story.  so read on to my review to see if I think they pulled it off this time.  (more…)

Amazing Spider-Man #8
The Terrible Threat Of The Living Brain

| Drew | (No Comments)

For today’s comic book review, I read Amazing Spider Man #8 from January 1964, a book crammed packed with Spider-man excitement, in fact two stories featuring our hero. This is a review of the first story. Titled. “The Terrible Threat Of The Living Brain”  But worry not, a review of the second story where Spider-Man faces The Human Torch, will shortly follow.

In this tale, we have everything we could hope for issues, promised to us from page one, that’s right in this issue, one of the three things we are promised it so   “See Pete Parker Fight Flash Thompson”!  But how can he accomplish this without ruining his identity as Spider-Man? (more…)

Amazing Spider-Man #7
The Return Of The Vulture

February 24, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)

For today’s comic book review, I read Amazing Spider-Man #7 and the tale contained within called The Return Of The Vulture. This classic By Stan Lee and Steve Ditko serves as a squeal to Amazing Spider-Man #2.

But can the Vulture who was so easily defeated by spider-man  issues ago, make a compelling return? or is he a bird-brained menace doomed to repeat his past mistakes?

To summarize the story, it begins with the vulture escaping from state prison,  he does this by developing a new flying device, and flying over the walls.  once free he wastes no time returning to his life of crime.  (more…)

Amazing Spider-Man #6
Face-To-Face With... The Lizard!

February 7, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)

For todays comic book review, I read the Amazing Spider-Man #6 from November of 1963. and this story is one of the cases where I will say that the cover does not do the story justice. The story title is “Face-To-Face With… The Lizard!

To summarize the story: News reports have spread as far north as New York of a lizard like monster in the Everglades, and Spider-Man has been called out by the papers, mostly The Daily Bugle.  Though some creativity spider-man accepts the challenge and gets J. Jonah Jameson to send him to Florida as Peter Parker to take pictures.  But is there more to the Lizard then meets the eye? (more…)

Amazing Spider-Man #5
Marked For Destruction By Dr. Doom!

January 30, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)

For today’s Comic book review I read Amazing Spider-Man #5 and the story “Marked For Destruction By Dr. Doom!”  it is a grand story for the marvel universes development, like so many in the year of 1963. This one, while having the Fantastic Four play  a minor role, while one of there main advisories Dr. Doom faces off against spider-man! This is the first time in the comics I have reviewed that a villain has appeared in another ‘comic’.  In other words, the first time that we show that not only can hero’s be guest stars, but Villain can go against different hero’s then just the same old ones over and over.

The summary of the story is, after Dr. Dooms last defeat at the hands of the Fantastic Four (See Fantastic Four # 17) He decides much like he did when teaming up with Namor the sub-mariner that he alone can’t defeat the Fantastic Four.

Having watched a special on Spider-Man bay J. Jonah Jameson he decides to recruit him, but when that fails he chooses instead to capture him, and use him as bait for the Fantastic Four! (more…)

Nothing Can Stop The Sandman!

December 23, 2011 | Drew | (2 Comments)

Today, I sit down to read and write my review of Amazing Spider-Man #4 from 1963. In Amazing Spider-Man #4, we get introduced to the well-known spider-man foe Sandman.  But is this issue as simple as Hero Vs Villain or is there more to this spider-man comic?

to give a short summary of this comic book, would be to say the following:  The Sandman who seems can not be captured by the police still needs to find a place to hide and lay low. Concluding that they will never look for him in a high school he enters Midtown high.

as luck would have it, he is found in this school, by spider-man as the high-school he picked is the one  Spider-Man’s alter ego Peter Parker attends.

Amazing Spider-Man #3
Doctor Octopus

December 7, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
amazing spider-man #3

This comic book review of Amazing Spider-Man #3, is a comic book review not only of a great spider-man story, but the first appearance of one of spider-man’s classic nemeses Doctor Octopus.

This story starts with Spider-man Capturing some common criminals, an easy tasks for the superhero. Ironically this leads him to wish for a more challenging of a foe.  This leads us to the change of scenes where we get introduced to Doctor Octopus, or perhaps I should say Doctor Otto Octavious.  Whom while performing a delicate, and radioactive experiment suffers from an accident.

The accident leaves the doctor hospitalised, having suffered some brain damage and with the doctors unable to remove his  mechanical arms that had earned him the nickname Doctor Octopus.  It’s the brain damage however that leads us down the road of a compelling story, as it leaves doctor octopus insane and power-hungry.

Spider-mans wish seemed to come true, a foe worthy of a fight, and a foe that may just defeat him, and in fact does.  (more…)

Amazing Spider Man #2

The Second story in Amazing Spider-Man #2 is The Uncanny Threat Of The Terrible Tinkerer! Also check out our comic book review of the 1st story titled Duel To The Death With The Vulture!

In March of 1963, Spider-man got off to a good start with his own amazing title, and then two months later, the second issue was released, and Stan Lee and Steve Ditko used two stories to build onto their Amazing Spider-Man.

but after reading the incredible vulture story, what  is left for the comic greats to give us? well why don’t i use words directly from the story to get us started:

Everybody loves a bargain! But sometimes it can be dangerous to accept a bargain which is too good to be true! especially if the bargain is being offered by someone like the Tinkerer
