Today I set out to do a comic book review on the ant-man and the wasp story from Tales To Astonish #46.  From the starting point, the cover did not set me off with great hope for the issue, but I know that is a bad way to judge a book.

for a short synopsis of the story, we have ant-man and the wasp experiencing a slow  period in the crime-fighting business.  This leads them to take a vacation,  where they decide to go to Greece; once there they find out that the locals are afraid to sail out to the islands do to a monster that’s been seen and attacking.  having seen the cover it’s not a stretch to connect it to the cyclops.  but can Ant-man & The wasp get to the bottom of this mythological threat?

Story

I did not think I would at first, but I did enjoy this story; it read well, and had an astonishing twist to it that just made all the pieces fall into place nicely. the dialog was a little cheesy even for its time in comic books, and I can’t help but feel H.E. Huntley was trying to show his intelligence by using Hexapoda instead of Ant.

Artwork

in general I feel Don Heck had been doing a good job with Ant-man, but in this issue, there where a couple of panels with the characters just did not look right to me; this is particularly true for Dr. Hank Pym, but also  true for Janet Van Dyne

for example, the face of Dr. Pym on the panel to the right  looks much more slender, and has a bit more shadows making him look  almost too thin in the face.

I feel if you compare this with him in the past you will see the differences, for your convince, I have included an image of him and the wasp from last issue so you can better compare for yourselves.

Originality & Continuity

While we have seen similar stories, such as Tales of Suspense #40 from April of the same year.  I do feel that this story had a fair amount of its own originality as well.

What is more important to me is that it seemed to fit the continuity,  our hero’s have been working hard, and mostly on crime, it makes scene for things to slow up at some point.

Characters & Development

Ant-man & The wasp

I feel that our star characters, undergone a bit of development in this issue. it is the first time we begin to establish them as more than just partners in crime fighting, but also as Friends.
