For today’s comic book review i read the ant-man and wasp story from Tales To Astonish #47, titled “Music To Scream By“. in this classic tale we see our heroes as well as the ant’s face the great threat of sound.
To offer a summary, the story starts out with a prelude where our hero’s both solve a common crime, as well as get introduced to Trango before he gains his hypnotic talents. Then though the passage of time, he return’s with new understandings of the powers of music, having the goal of a city-wide crime spree.
Overall I felt the story was good, it felt good to see them name some of the Ant’s, an aspect that has been missing up until now. by having Korr and Foss we gain a bit of depth that unnamed ants could not have offered in this story, this is a new idea I would love to see continue.
I also feel that they did a good job with the distortion to the world of the people as their being effected by the hypnotic tunes. To demonstrate this I have included a panel with Ant-Man and the Wasp as their being effected, the world around them, seems to be distorted as is their perception.
Originality & Continuity
What can I say about this, I cant help but feel that this story reminded me a lot of “the Voice of Doom” From Tales To Astonish #42, perhaps too much so given it’s in the same title, with the same hero, and just 5 months later.
Characters & Development
The Wasp and Ant-Man and The Ants
What I feel this story offered was great development for our hero’s. We got to see them in action in both a minor case, but more importantly got to witness a little bit of ‘time off’ for Dr. Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne. While this time off works directly into the main plot of our story (as such events often do in any bit of literature) I feel it is a great chance for development.
We also have named ant’s! this shows us that Ant-Man and his Ant Ally’s are closer than one might just suspect, gaining a strong bond between him and at least some of the community.
