Avengers #7
Their Darkest Hour!

Avengers 7

With my comic book review of Avengers #7, it is easy to see that at least the idea of universal continuity was beginning to go full swing.  In this issue, from just the opening pages, we have Iron Man facing consequences for his failure to respond to an avengers call, an event that just happened in  Tales Of Suspense #56.  This fact alone awed me, something so recent coming into play, and being at least slightly significant.  But then there was more, with the Enchantress and the Executioner from  Journey Into Mystery #103 , and a tie in to the last issue of Avengers as well. Before even 2 pages in, this review seemed to be off to a good start, with lots of Marvel Universe goodness potential. But does the story titled “Their Darkest Hour!” Live up more to the title, or to be a great shining light for what the marvel universe can be?  Read on, to see what I think about this and more in my comic book review.  (more…)

Tales To Astonish #57
On The Trail of The Amazing Spider-Man

Tales To Astonish 57

It seems in my last several classic comic book reviews, we have seen a lot of Hero Vs. Hero action.  from Spider-Man and the Hulk  to X-Men Vs Fantastic Four, and now Giant-Man and the Wasp face off against Spider-Man.  Every time, we see this kind of action, their are challenges  and concerns that must be addressed, even more so as a reviewer. Is it original? are both sides true to there characters? or do we just have some group of hero’s fighting another for the sake of sales and marketing?  The last few, I feel have been good, this one, I feel starts off weak; but I will get to that in my review below, first a short summary.

In this issue, Egghead tricks the ants into relaying a false message to giant-man.  one that states that Spider-Man is out to attack Giant-man! can our hero’s clear up this conflict before it’s too late? (more…)

Avengers #6
Masters Of Evil!

Avengers 6

Just from the first moment you look at the cover, you can get a good idea what to expect, the Avengers facing off against a team of super-villains; the Masters Of Evil.  Lead by an unknown and new menace ”Zemo”, leading a cast of antagonist that each of our hero’s has faced in a solo adventure.  we have  Radioactive Man,  The Black Knight, and The Melter back and together for the first time, to stop there former opponents new team.

But will this team of Super-villains stand a better chance united then they each did on there own? and what is Zemo’s motivation?  lets just say he is being put in via retroactive continuity, as a historic Captain America opponent. (more…)

Ant-Man:Season One

Ant-Man Season One

I was filled with excitement as I opened Ant-Man Season One for the first time.  Ironic considering that until I stared doing this site, he was not even in the list of my favorite hero’s  but his early stories and his character has seemed to grow on me; So much so that a modern In-Continuity retelling I thought would be just the kind of thing for me to love, and to bring new people into contact with the not so well-known hero.

Also so far, my feeling of the Season One stories has been  of how well they have been done.   But this one, is different; even as I sit down to do my comic book  review of it, it leaves me divided.  I did love the art and story, but I also feel it fell short of the goals of the season one titles. Tales To Astonish #56
The Coming Of The Magician!

Tales To Astonish 56

In this issue, just as the cover promises, we see Giant-Man using his power to his advantage, and then just as the last tale foretold, we get the hint of a looming proposal from hank Pym to Janet van Dyne.   But will this story be as magical as we hope, or just a bunch of tricks?

Tales To Astonish #55
On The Trail Of The Human Top!

July 4, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
tales to Astonish 55

In tales To astonish #55 we have Hank Pym as both Giant-Man and Ant-man using his skills along with the assistance of Janet Van Dyne to stop the Human Top for the second time. The first time was in Tales To Astonish #50 and #51.  But what does their second encounter have in store for us?  and what of the words on the cover “How can the Human Top be beaten when he too can grow as big as Giant-man??” but then, the real question I have going in to read it, is this issue a Giant Tease or Giant Success. Tales To Astonish #54
No Place To Hide

Tales To Astonish 54

This comic book review is for the Giant-man & Wasp story featured in Tales To Astonish #54, titled “No Place To Hide”. This tale features our hero’s after they are asked by the US Government to investigate a governmental change in the small nation of Santo Rico, and its new leader “El Toro!”

But is “no Place To Hide” worth the read?  does El Toro prove to be a worthy threat? and what is meant by the title, “No Place to Hide!”. these are all good questions as you begin to read my review, or flip though the story yourself.

Avengers #5
The Invasion of the Lava Men!

Avengers 5

Now has come the time for me to review Avengers #5,  where we have the first issue of avengers with Captain America as a full member, and  even after the epic battle with the hulk in Fantastic Four, we have  him returning for this tale,  titled  ”The Invasion Of The lava Men!”

That is right, for those who remember, this is a follow up of not only the recent avengers stories in Fantastic Four and Avengers #4 & #3, but also Journey Into Mystery #97.  And in this tale, we don’t have just one Lava man, but a whole army, and a weapon like none other, the living rock!

Fantastic Four #26
The Avengers Take Over!

Fantastic Four 26

After starting the fateful encounter of The Hulk Vs. The Thing last issue, I had to naturally read part two right away, moving on to see the melee become less about a one on one battle between the two titans and more of a team effort. But not just for the Fantastic Four Vs. The Hulk, but the Avengers as well.  As the one would be Hero proves near impossible to defeat?

But while the conflict goes on, Rick Jones; whom in his own way is at the heart of the conflict, and perhaps partly responsible engages in his own plan to reason with the hulk and to try to bring the conflict to an end another way. So Can the Fantastic Four and the Avengers stop the Hulk? or will they be left at a stand still?  Can Rick Jones communicate and get though the angered and rage filled hulk? and how will this epic end, and will we as fan’s be satisfied, read my review to see what I think of the now classic Fantastic Four #26. Avengers #4
Captain America Joins... The Avengers!

Avengers 4

Just from the cover you know this comic is going to be important, and not likely a taunt like Strange Tales #114. In fact, even as I sat down to read and review this comic, I could not help but feel the awe and wonder of what was bound to be one of the most epic avengers tales from those early days.   (more…)
