Journey Into Mystery 108

With  Journey Into Mystery #108, featuring The Might Thor in the story titled “Loci Prince Of Evil!”  We have  a story consisting of 3 grand scenes, starting off with Thor saving a young boy via a hammer strike from afar.. and then  Thor / Don Blake working to save the life in the OR of another marvel hero, One Doctor Strange!  Lastly we have Loki facing off against Thor in a scheme that is more direct than what has been attempted in the last 8 issues – where we had Loki working more behind the scenes manipulating other villains.  But is this epic battle, everything it could be and should be? I will get into that down below. (more…)

Sgt Fury And His Howling Commandos 6

Today as I sit down to write my comic book review of Howling Commandos #6, the story titled “The Fangs Of The Desert Fox!” I am left with more to think about then just the artwork, and story, but the not to subtle deeper meaning that was the real heart of this story, one that I think is more important than the story itself,  in particularly for 1964; but I will get to that soon.  (more…)

Daredevil #1
The Origin Of Daredevil

daredevil 1

This comic book review is of Daredevil #1,  who’s cover uses the fantastic Four, and Spider-Man to say how great this comic book will be. But does this classic first issue and Origin story meet my expectation’s. ones that Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four both helped to set, or was marvel blinded by their ego’s with the self promotion on this classic cover?  (more…)

Sgt Fury And HIs Howling Commandos 4

For today’s comic book review  I read Sgt. Fury And His Howling Commandos #4, with the story titled “Lord Ha-Ha’s Last Laugh!”.  but this tale of our favor Sgt. Nick Fury and his seven Howling Commandos had everything we have come to hope for from these tales, and a hole lot more.

The basic background of the story is our seven hero’s get sent to Berlin to get Lord Ha Ha, an Englishman who its beveled has been captured and forced to spread propaganda for the Nazi’s.  But in addition to the action packed tale of the rescue of the Lord, it’s also a tale with much, much more. This story offers us both the beginnings of new love, as well as the death of one of the Commandos! All in part showing us the horrors of war. (more…)

Tales of suspense #40
Iron Man Versus Gargantus!

Tales of suspense 40

Even from the cover, our second iron man story seems to feature our hero, now gold-colored facing off what seems to be some ancient monster of a brute. But what the real question comes down too, is does this story build upon what we were given as an origin the month before?

Also what of Tony Stark, does Iron Man live a double life?  does he keep his identity secret? all kinds of question’s to be responded to that the origin story did not have a need to address. (more…)

Amazing Adventures #1
I am The Fantastic Dr. Droom

October 25, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
amazing adventures 1

with this being the last week of October, as the air is getting cool, and Halloween drawing near, I felt it time for a bit of a change. so I bring forth Dr. Droom Week.

Stay Tuned my comic book review readers as we Move back in time again for this week. To start we will go to  June of 1961 to begin this epic tale,  of a marvel hero whom would appear for five lone stories in Amazing Adventures #1 to #4 and then again in #6. Then he would vanish into the nothingness of comic history for a long time before being brought back and renamed Dr. Druid.

for a bit more history, Amazing Adventures was renamed after issue #6 to Amazing Adult Fantasy; the name it would keep for 7 of the 15 issues of the run,  the last issue, that I already reviewed it would drop the word adult and debut Spider-Man.

But for now, we are back at issue #1, and it is still called Amazing Adventures, the last short story in the book is titled I am The Fantastic Dr. Droom. In 5 pages we have the origin of perhaps the strangest marvel character until Dr. Strange. (more…)

Incredible Hulk #4
The Monster and The Machine

September 27, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
Incredible-Hulk-04

The Monster and The Machine is the first of two hulk stories in Incredible Hulk #4, The Gladiator from Outer Space has its own review Here.

Incredible Hulk #4 is the halfway point of the original six issue run. With this issue it seems like Jack & Stan decided to try something a bit different, instead of telling one full issue story filled with everything we expect and hope for, they gave us two, both staring our favorite green machine. The Hulk.

The First story picks up where Incredible Hulk #3 left off. with Rick Jones being able to control the Hulk like a large living robot. The two story’s also complement each other quite well, The first giving us some great character development, the 2nd some much desired action and heroism.  (more…)
