Journey Into Mystery
Journey Into Mystery is one of the great classic comic book’s. With issue #83 it secured it’s place in history with the debut of Thor. From that issue on, it told stories of the Norse’s God up until the end of the run. My Reviews of the book are centered around Thor, Starting with Journey Into Mystery #83 With plans to go to the end of the original run at issue #100

Loki Prince of Evil!
March 18, 2013 | Drew | (No Comments)
With Journey Into Mystery #108, featuring The Might Thor in the story titled “Loci Prince Of Evil!” We have a story consisting of 3 grand scenes, starting off with Thor saving a young boy via a hammer strike from afar.. and then Thor / Don Blake working to save the life in the OR of another marvel hero, One Doctor Strange! Lastly we have Loki facing off against Thor in a scheme that is more direct than what has been attempted in the last 8 issues – where we had Loki working more behind the scenes manipulating other villains. But is this epic battle, everything it could be and should be? I will get into that down below. (more…)

When The Gray Gargoyle Strikes
March 7, 2013 | Drew | (1 Comment)
After the two-part team up between Mr. Hyde and The Cobra, we get a new menace for Thor to deal with; and all without the apparent tampering of his brother Loki in the background – that being something that has been more often than not for about the last seven issues. But the new menace – whom has the power to turn anything he touches into stone that he gained during a lab accident – has ambitious goals of immortality and even greater power for himself. In fact he see’s defeating Thor and claiming Thor’s mightily hammer as a means to his goals. No matter how delusional his plan may be the Gray Gargoyle proves to be quite a real threat for the Asgardian God. But what of the events of the last two issues? what of Jane Foster’s feeling of Don Blake betraying Thor? is continuity addressed or left forgotten? more on that below. (more…)

The Thunder God Strikes Back!
September 13, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
Today, I follow-up and review the second part of a cliff hanger that was started in Journey Into Mystery #105. In that issue, Mr. Hyde and The Cobra teamed up to stop Thor, and by all appearances succeed, by separating him from his hammer. How can Thor stop the two opponents as Dr. Don Blake? We just have to read this tale to find out. Without further words, let’s get to my comic book review of the story titled “The Thunder God Strikes Back!”
Journey Into Mystery #105
The Cobra and Mr. Hyde
September 7, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
This comic book review is of the story titled “The Cobra and Mr. Hyde”; and serves as the first part of a two-part story that is started in Journey Into Mystery #105. in this epic tale, we have two former Thor villain, whom each almost stopped the god of thunder, teaming up to do what they could not do on their own.
but in addition to that team up, we continue to have Thor struggling with his love for Jane foster, and quite willing to hang up his hammer to be with the woman he loves. but does this story of action and heart have what it takes to be great.

Giants Walk The Earth!
May 4, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
For this comic book review I read Journey Into Mystery #104, and the tale titled “Giants Walk The Earth!” and while the title makes it sound like it might be one of the many monster stories that predated the marvel superhero’s this one is a Tale featuring Thor, Odin, Loki and more.
In fact, this tale seems to be continued right where the last left off, and with Loki still scheming his ongoing plan to get vengeance on Thor, although in this volume we seem to see a second motive show up for the first time, one of ruling Asgard. But can the Evil Loki succeed in this, or will Thor be able to stop his step-brother again?

March 13, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
For today’s comic book review, I moved on to read Journey Into Mystery #102, to get the second part of the epic story started in the prior months Journey Into Mystery, featuring Thor, as the slave of “The Tomorrow Man!” in fact, the story is titled “Slave Of Zarrko, The Tomorrow Man!” and the title seems to hold true, as Thor is locked to his oath to serve Zarrko and help him conquer the 23rd century.
But can anyone stop him and Zarrko on the path to conquest of a peaceful future, or is Thor doomed to serve him forever? (more…)

The Return Of Zarrko, The Tomorrow Man!
March 12, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
For today’s comic book review I read Journey Into Mystery #101; a story that is part one of another two-part story for the Mighty Thor. But all being part of a larger epic that is ongoing related to his desire of Jane Foster.
In this issue, to punish Thor for not forgetting the mortal Jane Foster he reduces Thor’s power in half, as well as takes away his access to Asgard and ability to control the elements. Loki sees this as an opportunity, and sets up an encounter with Thor against The Tomorrow Man, by restoring the past foes memories. But can Thor stop the Tomorrow Man with half of his power? or is he doomed to fail? (more…)

The Master Plan Of Mr. Hyde!
February 28, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
for those who are reading along with me, you will recall that yesterday we read and I reviewed Journey Into Mystery #99, well today we move right to Part II of that story, and read Journey Into Mystery #100.As we left off Mr. Hyde was beginning a crime spree masquerading as Thor to try to discredit the hero, and hopefully today we find out the effects of these efforts.
But in addition to that, we have the petition to make Jane Foster an immortal, and to thus allow Thor to take her as his love, showing that this story has a lot of promise, but does it pack the required punch? (more…)

The Mysterious Mister Hyde!
February 27, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
For today’s comic book review I read Journey Into Mystery #99, featuring the first of a two-part story starring The Mighty Thor. this, the first part of the story is titled “The Mysterious Mister Hyde!”. With the title one might suspect, it is a tale that is a play on Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde, and in fact they would be right.
You see our stories antagonist is a Man with scientific knowledge, whom was inspired by the very story he draws the name Hyde form to create an elixir that would instill the same effect on him that Dr. Jekyll faced. With the power of Mr. Hyde he aims for revenge on Dr. Don Blake, and also to stop Thor from being able to foal him. (more…)
Journey Into Mystery #98
Challenged By The Human Cobra!
February 6, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
For today’s comic book review we have Journey Into Mystery #98, and the story titled “Challenged By The Human Cobra!” Featuring The Mighty Thor! Then As you may recall, we left last time hanging with Jane Foster leaving the employment of Dr. Don Blake for another doctor. This story picks up, almost no time later, continuing that fateful tale only with a new menace for Thor to Face.
It is in this story that we get introduced to The Cobra, a snake-like foe whom got his powers after a scheme of murder and being bitten by a Radioactive snake of the same name.
But the story is just as much about Thor Facing off against the Cobra as it is about him dealing with Jane Fosters departure, and as comic book fake would have it, before the final page, she would have a role to play in this epic tale, an end up being the Cobra’s Captive. (more…)

The Mighty Thor Battles The Lava Man
January 27, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
For today’s Comic Book Review I read Journey Into Mystery #97 and reviewed the Thor Story Titled “The Mighty Thor Battles The Lava Man”, but in addition to this epic tale, this issue debuted “Tales of Asgard” a short-lived story about Thor’s Home land, I will be reviewing them at a later date collectively.
this story however had it all, it had the action that keeps us coming back week after week, as well as character development and story that seems to have lasting changes. Then to top the great story off the Artwork was top notch, among the best work I recall seeing Jack Kirby do. (more…)

The Mighty Thor! Defying The Magic Of... Mad Merlin!
January 10, 2012 | Drew | (No Comments)
For Today’s Comic Book Review i Read the Thor Story from Journey Into Mystery #96. This story is titled “The Mighty Thor! Defying The Magic Of… Mad Merlin!” and as we sit down to read and review it, we have to ask ourselves if it is truly a magical story, or if it is one that will just fizzle out.
to summarize the events of the comic, we have the crypt of Merlin being discovered, and his sarcophagus was transferred to New York to be opened at a museum. After being opened though, Merlin awakens and leaves having high hopes to become a modern seat of power. In his first attempt to impress the modern world, he learns to achieve his goal, he must first stop Thor. (more…)

The Demon Duplicator's
December 17, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
for today’s comic book review i read Thor’s story from Journey Into Mystery #95 it is titled “The Mighty Thor Faces The Menace Of.. The Demon duplicator’s!”, in this tale, Thor faces a duplicate of himself, who has two hammer’s and is thus twice as powerful.
But the real question would be, is twice the number of Thor’s twice as good? or is two, one too many. and an interesting question indeed. (more…)

Thor and Loki Attack The Human Race!
December 9, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
For Today’s Comic Book Review I read the Story “Thor and Loki Attack The Human Race!” from Journey Into Mystery #94. That is correct, you read right, Thor and Loki, working together, but it is sad to say that the cover and the opening page tell us about all we need to know about this story. The True fact is if I just judged this book by its cover, it would have gotten a better review.

The Day Loki Stole Thor's Magic Hammer
November 15, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
This issue of Journey Into Mystery is an important one, as it marks the first issue that Thor travels to Asgard himself. He has sent his hammer the distance with Loki before, but this time he is brought there to find what was taken from him.
but does the simple fact that this is his first trip home make it a worth wild story? does the evil plot of Loki pay off, and what about the feeling of timing in this issue? All these will be discussed in my comic book review of Journey Into Mystery #92.
Journey Into Mystery #91
the mighty Thor! Battles Sandu Master of the Supernatural!
November 4, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
After my Comic book Review of Journey Into Mystery #90 yesterday, I had to follow it with issue #91 today. after such a bad review, I had to know right away if the Thor story from April 1961’s was better.
To start was the artwork of Joe Sinnott more enjoyable than that of Al Hartley yesterday? Then did this issue also have a good plot and story? all important question’s after following an issue that had a good story but bad art.
But before even reading the story, the cover did a good job of getting me enthusiastic about the content and story. Just look at it, it is a bit awe-inspiring and detailed. so we where off to a good start.

Trapped By The Carbon-Copy Man!
November 3, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
With Journey Into Mystery #90 Thor is set to face the “Carbon Copy Man” whom is in actuality Lord Zano. Son of Lord Ugarth, alien leader of a race known as Xartans from the Zugano star system.
Wow that’s a mouth full for the start of today’s comic book review. does this shape changing alien race with the goal of earthly conquest live up to some of the others? or are they like the toad-men, and not worth a moment of my time?

The Thunder God and The Thug
October 13, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
in just 6 issues we have seen Thor as he stopped Alien Invasion’s, Communist Plots, and fellow God’s. in this issue we add one to the bunch, Common Criminal’s. This is a story of a Mob boss named Thug Thatcher, whom tried to muscle into the steel industry and sold sub-standard steel.
This issue is filled with a recap of the important details of Thor, and would have made a great starting point for someone new to it back in the day, but it also fits in well. This comic has everything that I hope for, read on to see why. (more…)

the Vengeance of Loki
October 7, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
Loki’s back, and with a thirst for revenge against Thor, but this time Loki is more prepared for his duel with his brother. Before even reading further, I would encourage any comic fan to check out this classic story. in The Mighty Thor, Vol.1 (Marvel Masterworks). You have this great story and more. it includes Journey Into Mystery #83 where Thor was introduced, right up though Journey Into Mystery #100. Ok, now that I have given my shameless link to try to make a dime off something your going to buy anyway.

Prisoner of the Reds!
October 4, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
after last month’s story, this month’s Thor is a bit more down to earth. It still focuses on showing that the Norse god of thunder is patriotic to the US government and standing against the ‘reds‘ in the cold war. As such this issue, builds upon both Journey into Mystery #86 & #84 without referring ether of them.

On the Trail of the Tomorrow Man
September 24, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
He didn’t fly away he just faded from sight… as though moving into another segment of time! and since there was no time-travel in the past, he must have come from the future!!
If one quote from this issue, struck me it was this one. It says so much about the story, the writing of the time, and the logic behind it just makes me laugh. To me, this is what Journey into mystery #86 represents.
Journey Into Mystery #85
Trapped By Loki, The God of Mischief
September 20, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
Just three issues after the Hammer of Thor finds its way into the hands of Dr. Don Blake we get our first taste of another god. In this issue, we are introduced to Loki, but much more is at play and is hinted at then is understood at this time.
In this issue, we have the first battle of god’s, and what a better backdrop for that then New York City! What better a setting could there be. so this issue has it all, from Times Square to Asgard. but is exotic location’s and the first written bout of gods enough to make this issue great?
Journey Into Mystery #84
Vs. The Executioner
September 10, 2011 | Drew | (No Comments)
Thor’s story in Journey Into Mystery # 84 served as the perfect complement to his origin one issue before. In fact, it greatly surpassed it. don’t get me wrong, the origin was good; but this was better. It had action, It had suspense, it had irony. Most important of all, it had the character development we need to turn Thor from just some guy into the kind of hero we can relate to.
He is unlike the Fantastic Four, whom are for all purposes public, or Bruce Banner whom hates his Hulk half. Dr. Blake seems to embrace Thor, as well as hold a desire to keep his identity secret. This issue explores that idea, as well as the more human emotions of love with how he feel’s for Jane Foster.
