Today’s Comic book review is of Strange Tales #111; and it contains two stories that I have reviewed; This post is for the Dr. Strange story Titled: “Face-To-Face With The Magic Of Baron Mordo!“. For the Human Torch Story, please click here.

In our second tale of Dr. Strange, we have him face to face with Baron Mordo, or at least trance image to face.  Just as the first Dr. Strange tale, this is but 5 short pages, but what it offers in just a few pages is a good story and good character.

Story

Synopsis

its only five pages so i will try to keep this short. Doctor Strange’s fellow student of the Master  Baron Mordo sets out to destroy the master and learn the last of his secrets.  His plan is almost foolproof except for doctor strange realizing something is wrong, but can he stop the baron in time?

Review

I found that this Dr. Strange story was well written, and as enjoyable to read as the first one, it posed us both interesting characters, but a wonderful world building experience.

Art

I feel Steve Ditko had vision when it came to Dr. Strange,  and the art shows this.  the entire way it looks, and flows, and curves.  the choice of colors or even the chose not to use colors for the spirit. I feel he knew exactly what he wanted to do, and as such it was done quite well.

Originality & Continuity

I think that Baron Mordo is what one would expect to be pitched as the main nemesis for Doctor Strange.  There Both Magical, even learned from the same teacher.

Even the direction of this tale I feel was quite expected, but I do not feel that saying this makes it horribly unoriginal, as it was indeed perhaps a necessity.

Characters & Development

I feel in this story we get some building into the background of Doctor Strange, his purpose and even what his threats will be.   This story was more about building up the character then anything else, setting his place and purpose up, and even more so what makes him different then our other hero’s.
