For tales To astonish the feature story we have Giant-Man and the The wasp take on Colossus, a giant twice the size of Gaint-Man!  But in this trilling adventure taking place in the made up Bora-Boru Region of Africa, where a group of natives have taken to worshiping the 30 foot tall Colossus, can  Giant man manage to vanquish his foe?   Also In this issue, we have a new method for our hero’s to change their size,  as Hank Pym managed to modify his cybernetic helmet to aid him and thus allow size changes to happen at the speed of thought.   Lastly, the wasp gets a new costume in this issue;   one that Captain America in his all to short appearance takes a liking too.

Artwork

the artwork of this issue was done nicely, from offering a frustrated Janet, and a thought filled Hank to an action packed size changing thriller between our hero’s and  the giant Colossus.   but perhaps better than showing the action, was showing the natives, watching the action from afar. this method worked nicely here; proving to be something I liked about the issue… being something different.

Originality & Continuity

I can’t help but feel that this story is a rehashed version of  Tales To astonish #46. where we have the same characters face off against a cyclops, and that one in its time had been compared to  Tales of Suspense #40.   Simply put, the use of giant alien’s or giant robots placed by alien’s to gather information or start an invasion has been done.  Not just once, but several times before. But the sting is always a little worse when it’s a similar story for the same set of hero’s.  As such, I can hardly consider this work Original, even if it fits well with the continuity.

Characters & Development

This issue does offer a grand change for Giant-Man and the wasp, with the new uniform for the wasp, and the new technological development by Hank Pym.. promising to change the way the wasp and Giant-man change sizes from here on out, making it more streamlined, and possible to happen quickly in stories.  For story telling this is a positive change; although it does stretch my ability to believe when hank can change the size of the wasp with thought.. how does that work? and to what ends?

Story

All this sums up at the end to make an interesting, even if unoriginal story.  but even while the threat offers little that is new, the changes to the main characters offer enough of a reason for a fan to read this issue.   Thus while I do feel this story could have been a lot better, it was not horrible or uninteresting in the end.
