At the end of the last issue, we had a good idea that the “spell” over Captain America had broken—just in time to avoid him shooting the General. Now, we start off with Cap wrestling off the Nazis, quickly aided by his ally Bucky, who mostly handles them before reinforcements arrive at the end of Page 2. This moves us into the new story:

One might expect Red Skull to be upset at this failure, but as he puts it, “Details bore me! I have no time to brood over failure!” Instead, he is intent on his next objective: stealing Project Vanish, the Allies’ most powerful new weapon.

The story follows an agent in a POW camp who maneuvers himself onto a supply run by ordering another prisoner to attempt an escape—allowing him to take the prisoner’s place.

His guards? None other than Steve Rogers and Bucky. Using a concealed smoke bomb, he manages to slip away and get his hands on the weapon at the heart of Project Vanish. Now, Captain America must stop him before he escapes with the weapon.

Story & Art

he story has its flaws. I see no good reason for the POW to be on the supply run, and I find it odd that not only does Red Skull know about the weapon, but others do as well—it doesn’t seem to be a well-kept secret. These issues hinder the overall story in my eyes.

However, the action is fun, the weapon itself is interesting to see put to use against our heroes, and the resolution—while cheesy and not particularly original—feels fitting. The artwork flows well and keeps the story engaging, turning what might have been a weak plot into something more tolerable.
