for those who are reading along with me, you will recall that yesterday we read and I reviewed Journey Into Mystery #99, well today we move right to Part II of that story, and read Journey Into Mystery #100.As we left off Mr. Hyde was beginning a crime spree masquerading as Thor to try to discredit the hero, and hopefully today we find out the effects of these efforts.

But in addition to that, we have the petition to make Jane Foster an immortal, and to thus allow Thor to take her as his love, showing that this story has a lot of promise, but does it pack the required punch?

Story

I feel that this story was fairly well written, but not exceptional, and definitely not living up to the great expectation’s and hopes that were laid out from Part I.  everything here seems a bit watered down from the build up of last issue, and it’s not until the climax of the story that you feel things getting intense again.

Artwork

the artwork of this issue did carry though from the last, much as if it is the same, and while I would say that is a good thing, it also failed to impress me, the detail in both the background, and the characters just did not seem to be there for many  of the panels.  This effect did seem to make the good ones look better, but overall the art was much to bland for my taste. 

Originality & Continuity

I find it a little disturbing that in this story  Hyde drops his disguise as Thor, right away, instead of continuing to commit the crimes as the Thunder god. the story does mention these actions in the last issue, and address them,  but they are not continued, it seems almost like a good plan dropped.

I feel the story could have been much the same, and fit a lot better if Hyde dressed as Thor did the kidnapping of Don Blake and Jane Foster, and that is how prior crimes as the thunder-god get discovered, instead of just by a little dialog at the end by a no-name cop instead.

Character & Development

Jane Foster & Don Blake: Same as it ever was

Again we are given the taste, and chance for change, even a long-term goal for the character, but then they make sure that is ripped from Thor’s grasp in this issue, by Odin’s perception of how Jane Protects Mr. Hyde.

This takes what could have been a good long-term development from last issue, and shreds it to pieces, leaving Jane Foster & Don Blake’s relationship with no hope, just as it has been so far.
