Tales of Suspense #63:The Origin of Captain America!

This is a silver age (comic code approved) retelling of Capitan Americas origin, the biggest change of note in this version, the formula that was original an injection is now taken orally. This tale is a bit of a reboot for the Capitan America solo stories that have been more flop then smash hit thus far, opting to switch to telling historic World War II tales with him and bucky instead of side adventures in the modern era apart from the Avengers.

This origin story, tell us (and those who read my site likely are familiar with at least one version or another of it) the origin of Capitan America as well as how he and bucky came to work together.

Story

As a retcon origin and a bit of a reboot, it serves its purpose well, giving a compelling story, but it will take time to see if switching up the narrative helps find the footing these stories need. I also think that redoing the story was needed, reprinting the original was not quite an option at the time and in general a fan wanting to get the old story would not have the resources in 1965 and they do in 2025.

Artwork

Jack Kirby is in his element with Capitan America and bucky and it shows page after page and panel after panel, but this review as a retelling I am opting to keep fairly short and instead let you digest and compare to the version of the origin that is ‘yours’ for yourself, as it will be retold and retconned again.
