In this issue, just as the cover promises, we see Giant-Man using his power to his advantage, and then just as the last tale foretold, we get the hint of a looming proposal from hank Pym to Janet van Dyne.   But will this story be as magical as we hope, or just a bunch of tricks?

Artwork

Dick Ayers artwork for this Giant-Man tale was done quite well, offering us a great look at tiny details when we need it for things in the foreground, but generally lacking in all background.  not an uncommon thing in older comics, but it does stand out in this tale in some of the later pages.

The Panel I wish to include for you is of Janet Van Dyne shrinking to the wasp to both escape  the trap laid by the Magician on the unsuspecting crowd but also to alow her to confront him.  I feel that the lack of strong color in favor of shades to represent the darkness was done well in these two panels; from the moment i seen them, i just knew they where what I had to share.

Characters & Development

from the last few issues, we see a great bit of growth going into this issue, as Hank Pym gets ready to ask the big question of Janet.  But as often happen’s in comics of the day; things don’t go as planned, leaving us likely in a state of un-change for issues to come.

The biggest positive to come out of this, is it seems to be the most formal deceleration of their relationship that I have seen yet.

Originality & Continuity

I feel that the Magician could have been a cool concept; but in the end he feels not all that different from a few other antagonist we have seen;  It was good to not have all the detail’s and motives pointed out for once though,  in favor of spending more time with our star characters and with the ongoing action.

What I really liked this issue, was how it finely given us a good firm grounding for the new nature of the relationship with Dr. Hank Pym (Giant-Man) and Janet Van Dyne (The Wasp) Spelling out what has been increasingly implied.

this also leads to the biggest downfall, in the last 3 reviews for Ant-man and the wasp we have seen the wasp captured 3 times; our female hero needs to be more than just a damsel in distress!

Story

all things said, the story was quite good and one that I enjoyed reading. The way everything flowed together is a key part to its high review, but I just can’t give it full points until the wasp is taken seriously as a hero, although i would not be surprised if I was left waiting a long time.
