This story serves just one function, to relaunch (and try to save) Giant-Man solo stories, giving hi a new look and some new abilities, the entire story takes place in his home/lab with him and Janet (oh and their cap named Tabby and spider). The backdrop of this, is Hank Pym making a device to let him use his size changing abilities as a weapon, shrinking and enlarging targets of his choice. While this is ongoing The Wasp opts to redesign Giant-Man’s look. Going for a cover worthy revamp to save the series. the Action takes place first with him using his new weapon against their cat named Tabby, then a bit of a battle with an accidently oversized spider.

Story
The story is, lackluster, offering a revamp on the hero to try to make him compelling but without offering a real threat (instead to try to let us focus on what the revamp is) it fails to sell the use of the change. the only pro, making it seem less then perfect and a bit uneasy.

Artwork
The artwork is hit and miss in this issue, I find myself between liking some of the details while also hating the redesign look itself. our heo looking a bit more like a Sci-fi knight with a blue Cowl at the end then anything real heroic. At least that is my persective

Characters & Development
This is a development, in a long line of developments to make the Hank Pym stories work. Lets discuss how we got here:
From Issue | Too Issue | Details |
Tales To Astonish 27 | Pre-heroic origin story | |
Tales To Astonish 35 | Tales To Astonish 43 | Ant-Man solo adventures |
Tales To Astonish 44 | Tales To Astonish 48 | Ant-Man is joined by the Wasp |
Tales To Astonish 49 | Tales To Astonish 57 | Ant-Man becomes Giant Man |
Tales To Astonish 58 | Tales To Astonish 64 | Giant-Man can change side cybernetically instead of with pellets (for the wasp as well) |
Tales To Astonish 65 | ** | new blue design and size changing weapon |
Now I want to talk a bit about the ** in the end of the chart, leading me to talk about the future of the character and where it is going: After the adventures end in 5 issues, this redesign is scraped in favor of a new redesign when he returns later. The new redeign abandons the ‘weapon’ introduced here

Originally & Continuity
the last change to how Giant-man worked in issue #58 was hard for me to swallow, now him shrinking or increasing the size of targets , seeming to abandon the formula approach to Pym partials is hard for me to swallow at this time, it seems like it has a lack of being thought out, and is not a change I can get behind. In trying to save the hero from obscurity, it feels more like the deathshot that will take just a bit of time to fester and kill.
